Dear Friend,

Just as American families are expected to live within their means, we should expect no less from our federal government. However, it appears President Biden disagrees.

Earlier this week, President Biden released his budget request for fiscal year 2025. This proposal doesn’t just miss the mark, it is a roadmap to accelerate America’s decline.

Tucked in the more than 185-page proposal, President Biden calls for an unprecedented $86.6 trillion in spending over 10 years, which would increase our national debt by more than $18 trillion, to the highest level in our nation’s history. The proposal includes the largest tax high in American history but would still require $1.6 trillion in deficit spending on average per year.

While hardworking Americans struggle with crippling inflation and mounting national debt, the President’s budget seeks to increase their pain to spend trillions on his left-wing policy priorities.

Our Sunset Act seeks to rein in executive branch spending by requiring Congressional approval for any “major rule” every ten years. If the major rule fails to receive Congressional approval, it will be terminated. A major rule is a federal rule implemented by an executive agency that has an economic impact of greater than $100 million.

Essentially, the Sunset Act will force the federal government to reassess its out-of-control spending. This could not be more important as the Government Accountability Office (GAO) recently found that the headquarters of many executive branch agencies, including the Department of Agriculture, Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Small Business Administration and the Social Security Administration, are essentially sitting empty as federal workers continue to work from home. This is unacceptable.

Taxpayers pay more than $2 billion a year for office space that D.C. bureaucrats refuse to use, and President Biden has done little to force them back into the office. As Biden fails to act, House Republicans are taking the lead. This week, we passed the USE IT Act which sets building occupancy standards to incentivize federal workers to return to the office or lose the office space.

The Biden Administration has made it clear they are willing to blindly spend billions of dollars on empty office space while simultaneously saddling the American people with trillions of dollars in spending, exploding our national debt and driving up costs for Minnesota families.

Sincerely,
