Breaking news: The House Elections Finance and Policy Committee passed the Ranked Choice Voting Local Options bill out of committee this morning, advancing the bill in the legislative process!
The bill, carried by Rep. Frazier and Sen. Morrison, provides local control and levels the playing field for all local jurisdictions — cities, counties, and school districts — to adopt RCV if they wish. It also provides election standards for consistent implementation of RCV across Minnesota and allows state certification of RCV voting equipment and tabulation systems, which would expedite election results.
We have the momentum, but there still is a lot of work to do before we make RCV a reality in local communities around the state. We still need to raise another $10,000 this month to ensure we have the resources necessary to push this bill across the finish line. Can we count on you to chip in?
Thank you again to everyone who was able to join us to show support for expanding ranked choice voting in MN! The bill will need to be heard in additional committees before moving to a floor vote. Stay tuned for details!
We are so grateful for your time and effort as we move the RCV bill forward at the Capitol; we simply couldn’t do this work without you.
