I’m just signing off from our March Campaign Update with Pennsylvania state House candidate Jessica Benham and Oregon Secretary of State candidate Jamie McLeod-Skinner. I hope you were able to join us!

If not, here’s a quick update. Jamie and Jess are ready to make LGBTQ history in their states and add vital voices to their governments. But like all of our LGBTQ candidates around the country, they’re campaigning during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it has upended traditional campaign tactics and strategies.

Right now, several of our elected officials and candidates are battling the virus. The rest are following specified safety measures and postponing or cancelling large fundraisers and field events. Victory Fund is working hard to provide them with the resources, advice and other support they’ll need to cross the finish line. We are working tirelessly to raise their visibility through media outlets and social media so voters have them top of mind on Election Day. But I’ll be honest, we need more resources in these unprecedented times.

I know this is a trying time for people, and no one quite knows what’s going to happen next. But that means it’s more important than ever that we keep fighting. Our community is no stranger to tough battles, to trying times when we had to be our own advocates. We’re living in one of those times now. Our ability to rally together – to continue making historic steps forward – is our greatest strength.
