The school’s actions weren’t simply wrong — they were unconstitutional.

Friend,

Unfortunately, in today’s taxpayer-funded schools, parents are routinely kept in the dark about their children and what is being taught to them.

I’m Victor Riches, President and CEO of the Goldwater Institute, the nation’s leading liberty organization. In addition to fighting for school choice and academic transparency, the Goldwater Institute provides pro-bono legal support for parents whose constitutional rights have been violated by the very schools entrusted with the education of their children.

My goal is to raise $35,000 in the next week to help us accomplish tangible results for parental rights in state courts, legislatures, and communities nationwide.

The Goldwater Institute is currently helping a concerned parent, Amber Lavigne, sue the school board of her daughter’s school after a “counselor” gave her 13-year-old daughter a chest binder, referred to her by an alternate name and male pronouns, and encouraged the daughter not to tell her parents.

“This is unacceptable: a school employee secretly encouraged my daughter to change her gender and hide it from me. The school never stopped trying to keep me in the dark at every turn, repeatedly stonewalling me when I tried to find out what was going on. My parental rights aren’t up for debate: I deserve to know what’s happening to my child in school.”
— Amber Lavigne

The school’s actions weren’t simply wrong — they were unconstitutional.

Now, we’re demanding the school board investigate the counselor’s actions and force them to accept parental rights as defined by law.

Goldwater Institute attorneys also represented Terrie Chumchal, a Texas mom
who wanted to know if her child’s school had a history of bullying issues.

It turns out that the school was the real bully.

Instead of providing her with the public records they were required to present by law, the school sent her a bill for over $7,000!

The Goldwater Institute challenged the district's excessive fee demand. Ultimately, the district had no choice but to retreat and give Terrie the answers she sought.

Parents shouldn’t need a lawyer just to find out what is going on in their children’s schools. But when they do, the Goldwater Institute is there to provide the support they need.

Parents have a fundamental right to control and direct their children's education, upbringing, and healthcare decisions.

Instead, schools are cutting parents out of the conversation.

That is why the Goldwater Institute is fighting to empower parents, not activist educators, to make decisions that best meet their children’s needs. You can support our fight to defend parental rights by clicking below.
