Dear friend,
I hope this note finds you and your family safe and healthy. These are unprecedented times we are living in, and all of us here at Team Cornyn are lifting up our fellow Texans – especially our nurses and medical teams, law enforcement, food services workers and others on the front lines – in our prayers.
Senator Cornyn has been working hard to bring critical relief to Texans affected by COVID-19. Working closely with Governor Abbott, Texas mayors and county leaders, and hospitals, he’s delivered key measures that will help individuals and families, businesses, hospitals and medical providers, and communities bridge-the-gap during these uncertain times. (Read the senator’s op-ed in Friday’s Dallas Morning News on the three recent relief bills passed by Congress.) He has also continued to emphasize the need to do our part to stay home as much as possible to help flatten-the-curve.
The Senate now stands in recess, but Senator Cornyn continues to communicate with industry and small business leaders, school officials and more to see what additional needs arise in the weeks ahead.
As you can imagine, social distancing and stay-at-home measures have turned normal campaigning on its head. For example, our field staff, who usually hold statewide trainings and organize block walks, have refocused their efforts to motivate volunteerism for local food pantries and Meals on Wheels. During times of crisis, Senator Cornyn knows that people – not politics – should be our chief focus. That’s why he made the call to suspend all campaign activities.
Unfortunately, national Democrats and his opponents refused to take the higher ground. They continued their unrelenting attacks of Senator Cornyn and the President. Simply put, it shows what kind of people we are running against and what we are in for the next several months.
With millions of dollars from California, New York and DC pouring into the Democrats’ campaigns, we can no longer sit by and let out-of-state Liberals have so much influence in this election. So, beginning this week, we will resume some virtual campaign activities – keeping supporters like you informed and engaged.
Meanwhile, we are planning several telephone town halls with Senator Cornyn, and will continue to communicate with you via email and social media.
There’s nothing Senator Cornyn wants more than to get back out there and meet with voters, but we know that patience and staying-at-home in the short-term will mean long-term gains for everyone.
We know overcoming COVID-19 is still the most important subject any of us are focused on, and we’ll continue to share important messages about how you and your family can remain safe and secure during this outbreak. Let’s continue to show the nation how Texans take care of Texans... be safe and we’ll be in touch again soon!
