Over 42% of adults have been part of a youth group

Hello John,

I hope this message finds you well. I’m writing to let you know about the release of new research on youth work ([link removed]) conducted on behalf of NYCI by RED C, revealing the public's overwhelming support for the role of youth work in our communities. I’m happy to share some of the key findings with you, and consider what we can do next as a sector.
* Wide Participation: Over 42% of adults have been part of a youth group, which means about 1.65 million people in Ireland have experienced youth work.
* Important role in communities: More than 9 out of 10 adults think youth work is important in helping young people become part of their communities.
* Widespread Support: More than 9 in 10 people who are aware of youth organisations in their community think that they provide important non-formal education to young people.

The research ([link removed]) shows how much the public values the work you do and how important it is for young people's development. It also highlights the need for equal access to these opportunities, and dedicated youth facilities across Ireland.

Addressing the Awareness Gap

However, as we celebrate these positive findings, the research also reminds us of the challenges we need to tackle. A knowledge gap exists, with three in ten people who are aware of youth work organisations in their area, unfamiliar with the work that goes on.

As a starting point, NYCI is committed to providing more accessible information on youth work ([link removed]) , engaging the public with compelling stories of the impact of youth work, and rolling out a programme later in 2024 to increase volunteer engagement with youth work organisations.

Let's Keep Pushing Forward

Together, let's use these findings to empower our efforts to advocate for the support we need to continue making a transformative impact on the lives of young people and communities across Ireland.

Warmest regards and thank you again for your ongoing dedication and hard work John,

Mary
