Tweet from Ed Markey:'Extreme heat poses an extreme health risk. This risk is even greater for incarcerated people and those experiencing inhumane solitary confinement. We must stop the climate crisis and we must end solitary confinement.'

Friend — When we say that the climate crisis affects each of the major issues facing our nation, we mean it. That includes criminal justice reform.

When the symptoms of a changing climate — including extreme heat waves — come to bear, it will almost always be vulnerable communities who are affected most.

Those already experiencing inhumane treatment at the hands of our broken criminal justice system will continue to face life-threatening conditions as a result of climate breakdown.

And that’s why Ed Markey has not only been a leader on Green New Deal and climate legislation in the Senate, but a leader on ending solitary confinement too.

Because our progressive movement is committing to fighting for climate justice across the board, for each and every one of us.

In solidarity,

Team Markey
