Experimental weight loss pill seems to be more potent than Ozempic - New Scientist (No paywall) The medicine, called amycretin, caused people to lose 13 per cent of their weight over three months, more than twice the amount seen with Ozempic and Wegovy specifically. “This approach seems to be a little bit more exciting, from the limited data that we have,” says Daniel Drucker at the University of Toronto in Canada.
The results are from a placebo-controlled trial lasting three months, so it is too soon to know how amycretin stacks up against the other medicines for long-term effectiveness and safety, says Drucker, who wasn’t involved in the trial but has consulted for the manufacturer Novo Nordisk, as well as other pharmaceutical firms.

Work Are men and women growing apart politically? Not so fast. When I was growing up in the 1990s, couples counselor John Gray penned a book on gender relations with an instantly memorable title: Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus. The book argued that men and women have fundamentally different communication styles, which can be major sources of tension in heterosexual relationships. To call it a hit is a massive understatement: Gray’s book has sold 15 million copies worldwide, and was even adapted into a Broadway show (starring Gray) in the late 1990s.

Work You don’t have an airport, commissioner, it belongs to us all As for “my airport,” Miami last year made a towering mistake handing “my theater,” the Tower Theater, which had been a famed art cinema well run by Miami Dade College, to Commissioner Joe Carollo to run independently. Work Forced shifts of home insurance providers can be costly “Number two,” he said, “it takes about $200 million to build a building of 15 stories and they ended up insuring them for $30 million to $50 million. So now, the insurance companies are saying no, we’re not going to do this anymore. So now, just by increasing the value from $40 million to $100 million, you’re adding a massive cost to the unit owners and your deductibles are higher, so your out-of-pocket expenses are higher.”

| Work As big banks swallow smaller ones, choices dwindle “Larger banks have higher lending limits than smaller community banks, and they’re generally more interested in making larger loans,” Mr. Brown said. “Costs are better, they spread the costs over the cost of making the loans. The absence of community banks, I do think, puts some pressure on smaller businesses, [and] makes it harder for them to find financing.”

Work Could ‘Mitchell-Lama 2.0’ Help New York’s Housing Crisis? There’s a lot of nostalgia associated with the Mitchell-Lama program. People see it as a solid way that government was able to produce good housing that allowed middle-class New Yorkers to rent and buy affordable homes. That gives it a special spot in the political psyche.
