1) Under Biden Plan: U.S. Will Have Higher Tax Rates Than Russia and China
We are often asked whether Biden is intentionally trying to dismantle the American economy with his imbecile energy, climate change, crime, border, inflation, and debt policies. We’ve always answered no, that these policies are driven by a badly mistaken ideology – not malice.

But then when we saw Biden’s new tax plan, that has made us reconsider. As you can see from the chart below, Biden would hobble United States businesses with the highest corporate tax rate in the world. Who’s the big winner here if God forbid these policies were adopted? China, Russia, Europe, and nearly every other country that competes with the U.S. This will lead to an outmigration of capital from the U.S. to our rivals as sure as river water flows downstream.

[link removed]
What’s particularly mendacious about this idea of raising the American business tax rate by 33% is that we just did an experiment with lowering the federal corporate rate from 35 to 21% under Trump.

Even the opponents of that policy acknowledge that it increased investment flows into the United States. We estimate about $1 trillion came into the U.S. leading to a torrent of jobs here at home.

Biden’s inane tax-hike policies will put America last – literally and figuratively.

2) Mail-in Voting Is Turning Election Night Into Election Week and Even Month
Everything has speeded up in life, from package delivery to getting a video appointment with a doctor – except election results. Especially in blue states. You know, the states where everyone is SO hyper-concerned about safeguarding democracy.

It used to be that election results were announced on election night or by the next morning. Many states like Florida and Georgia are now counting almost all ballots by midnight.

By contrast, Washington state held its primary Tuesday, and less than half the ballots were counted on Election Night. Only some 5.5 million ballots were counted on the night of the California primary, with two million still to go. Some election winners won’t be announced until April! As long as ballots were postmarked by Election Day, they can arrive at election offices a week later and will be counted.

All of this delay invites vote fraud and naturally creates cynicism about the integrity of elections and for good reason: they make our elections less secure. The National Commission on Federal Election Reform, chaired by former President Jimmy Carter and former Secretary of State James Baker, concluded that mail-in ballots were the tool of choice for those committing voter fraud, because they were cast outside the supervision of government officials.

What’s the solution? Limit the use of mail-in voting to extreme cases but allow people to vote early in person.

3) Men Not at Work
We’ve drummed this theme many times in the Hotline, but the crisis keeps getting worse. Fewer and fewer men of working age are…working. The percentage has slipped from roughly 86% to 66% over the past five decades. Since 2000, the rate has fallen by roughly another 10 percentage points.

[link removed]
This is bad news economically and culturally. Adult men who are not working suffer higher rates of divorce, alcoholism, drug abuse, crime, suicide, abusive behavior, and depression.

Happiness and longevity are associated with working. Depression and early death are associated with not working.

We recommend that our readers get a hold of David Bahnsen’s new book “Full Time: Work and the Meaning of Life.” ([link removed]) We are struck by these charts from the book that show the social pathologies that are so highly troubling in modern America. Notice that these trends all have gotten worse as work participation has fallen.

[link removed]
Why is work so apparently related to happiness and a long life? It's simple really:

“Work helps give life meaning,” Bahnsen concludes.

4) Fired for Telling the Truth About COVID
Harvard’s Dr. Martin Kulldorff got the big things right on COVID more than perhaps any other academic expert in America. He was proven right on the age gradient of risk, schools, lockdowns, and mandates.

In a first-person story posted yesterday on City Journal, he details how he was censored by (pre-Musk) Twitter at the request of the Biden administration for posting this:

[link removed]
He was then fired by the CDC for opposing the pause in the Johnson and Johnson vaccine – which was lifted after four days anyway, at enormous cost to the credibility of public health agencies:

A month after my tweet, I was fired from the CDC Covid Vaccine Safety Working Group—not because I was critical of vaccines but because I contradicted CDC policy. In April 2021, the CDC paused the J&J vaccine after reports of blood clots in a few women under 50. No cases were reported among older people, who benefit the most from the vaccine. Since there was a general vaccine shortage at that time, I argued that the J&J vaccine should not be paused for older Americans. This is what got me in trouble. I am probably the only person ever fired by the CDC for being too pro-vaccine. While the CDC lifted the pause four days later, the damage was done. Some older Americans undoubtedly died because of this vaccine “pause.”

And eventually, he was fired by Harvard for declining the vaccine himself:

For scientific, ethical, public health, and medical reasons, I objected both publicly and privately to the Covid vaccine mandates. I already had superior infection-acquired immunity; and it was risky to vaccinate me without proper efficacy and safety studies on patients with my type of immune deficiency. This stance got me fired by Mass General Brigham—and consequently fired from my Harvard faculty position.

While several vaccine exemptions were given by the hospital, my medical exemption request was denied. I was less surprised that my religious exemption request was denied: “Having had COVID disease, I have stronger longer lasting immunity than those vaccinated (Gazit et al). Lacking scientific rationale, vaccine mandates are religious dogma, and I request a religious exemption from COVID vaccination.”

That didn’t go over too well in the faculty lounge. The whole story is worth reading as an object lesson in how honest dissent was so often punished during coronamania:

5) What Did the President Forget and When Did He Forget It?
Our friends at the WSJ have the best summary of yesterday's hearing on Biden illegally hiding classified documents and his now-famous interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur:

Mr. Biden denounced the idea that he had trouble recollecting past events. In a press conference the night the report was made public, the President waxed indignant that Mr. Hur said that he couldn’t name within several years when his son Beau had died. “How in the hell dare he raise that?” Mr. Biden said.

But the transcript of Mr. Hur’s interview with Mr. Biden, which was released Tuesday, reveals several memory lapses by the President. It also confirms that Mr. Biden—not Mr. Hur—brought up Beau. This and the other presidential confusions in the report confirm Mr. Hur’s conclusion.

Once Mr. Hur concluded that Mr. Biden had “willfully” retained classified documents prohibited by law, the special counsel had to explain why he decided not to prosecute. That had to include why he thought a jury would make judgments about the President’s memory.

“What I wrote is what I believe the evidence shows, and what I expect jurors would perceive and believe,” Mr. Hur said. “I did not sanitize my explanation. Nor did I disparage the President unfairly. I explained to the Attorney General my decision and the reasons for it. That’s what I was required to do.”

Democrats are cheering that Biden suddenly appears to be of sound mind. If that’s the case, then he should be criminally prosecuted.
