Global Hunger and Gender Inequality

A woman dressed in Masai attire smiles as she places her hands on her waist.

Dear John,

‌

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, World Vision can inspire inclusion all year long. Contributions from donors have enabled World Vision to take a holistic approach to responding to the Global Hunger Crisis by looking at this crisis through the lens of gender.

Here’s a glimpse of what we accomplished in 2022 and 2023 by joining hands with our donors to help provide relief to people living in the world’s most difficult places:

21.3 million people were reached through World Vision’s Global Hunger Response

Advancing Gender Equality and Inclusion One Meal at a Time

The severity of the Global Hunger crisis has reached unprecedented levels, catalyzed by a melting pot of factors such as climate shocks, ongoing conflict, and widespread displacement.

‌

For every ten people facing chronic hunger, 6 are female. Due to harmful gender norms, including practices where women and girls eat last and the least, women and girls are more susceptible to hunger and malnutrition.

‌

The Global Hunger Response is World Vision’s most extensive humanitarian response appeal to date, reaching 21.3 million people as of March 2023. In countries like Ethiopia, World Vision has equipped women with seedlings and farming equipment to plant their own home and neighborhood gardens. This enables women to build resilience and address climate change, for themselves, and by extension their communities.

‌

Even in the face of formidable obstacles presented by the Global Hunger Crisis, World Vision staff continue to show unwavering dedication to providing lifesaving support to women and communities in need, while navigating critical and fragile conditions.
