Dear Friend,
It’s only been two weeks since we launched our campaign to fight back against this misleading recall effort, and what a two weeks it's been!
I’m grateful – really, really grateful – to the nearly 600 people who’ve donated [[link removed]] , the hundreds who’ve put up yard signs, and the incredible volunteers already pitching in. And I’m also proud to have organizations who share my values stand with me and speak out against the recall: Planned Parenthood, Sierra Club, our local firefighters and EMTs, three key unions in our region representing tens of thousands of workers, the DC Latino Caucus, DC for Democracy, and both the Ward 6 and DC Dems.
That’s a great start. And it tells me that people see this recall effort for what it is: a cynical ploy by a small group of people who spend more time focused on national politics than rolling up their sleeves in their own communities. [link removed] [[link removed]]
The recall effort has opened the door to all manner of national GOP operatives, lobbyists, and monied interests [[link removed]] who see this as an opportunity to push their own agendas.
And here’s proof: some recall supporters spent a recent weekend with the GOP fundraising off the recall during their Republican primary convention ( pictured right ).
So what’s next? We fight back. You’ll see volunteers – real, local neighbors ( not out-of-state hired guns [[link removed]] ) – across the Ward talking to neighbors and urging them not to sign the recall petition . You’ll see mailers that help spread the word to tens of thousands of Ward 6 residents. You’ll see digital ads and other efforts to fight back.
But I can’t do it without your support. Here are three ways you can help today:
Donate [[link removed]] Donate. Many of you have already donated but we need to keep fundraising. If you haven’t donated yet, now’s a great time to join us, and if you have, please consider doing so again (the limit is $500). Your generosity helps our campaign set the record straight and show what’s at stake.
Yard Sign [[link removed]] Request a yard sign. Let your neighbors know the recall effort is misleading and you don’t support it. It’s a reminder that we’re stronger together, and we don’t have to give in to fear mongering. Send us a tweet with a photo [[link removed]] when you put your sign up!
Get Informed [[link removed]] Get informed: If you want to feel better informed on some serious issues, we’ve put together webpages on my record on public safety [[link removed]] (that also clear up some misleading attacks) and my record as your Ward 6 Councilmember [[link removed]] .
Again, I want to emphasize how heartening it’s been to hear from so many neighbors from every corner of Ward 6 that you see this recall for what it is. Together, we’ve built a wonderful place to call home, and we have so much more to do together. Let’s keep going.
Thank you,
Charles Allen
