** UN CSW 68 Side Event "Accelerating Gender Equality in Fragile Settings: A Focus on Women and Girls"

Dear Colleagues and friends,

We are pleased to invite you to attend the UN CSW 68 Side Event "Accelerating Gender Equality in Fragile Settings: A Focus on Women and Girls." The event will take place on 14 March 2024, from 13:15 to 14:30 at the UN Complex, Conference Room 12 in New York.

The objective of this collocated side event—supported by the Government of Norway, Sonke Gender Justice, MenEngage Africa, and Reach Out NGO Cameroon— is to tackle the urgent concerns pertaining to gender parity in humanitarian and precarious environments. With a specific focus on the challenges faced by women and girls, we seek to foster dialogue, propose innovative solutions, and catalyze action towards achieving gender parity in these contexts.

The event will feature a high-level opening session with esteemed speakers, including Reverend Bafana Khumalo, Co-Executive Director at Sonke Gender Justice and the Norwegian Minister of Culture and Equality, HE Ms Lubna Jaffery. Following this, a panel discussion composed of practitioners, policymakers, and youth advocates will delve into the intricacies of promoting gender equality within humanitarian contexts. The event will conclude with a synthesis of key takeaways and actionable recommendations.

We anticipate that this event will result in heightened awareness of the unique challenges faced by women and girls in fragile settings, identifying innovative strategies, enhancing collaboration among stakeholders, and formulating concrete action points to inform gender equality agendas at both national and international levels.
