John,
58 percent of American adults or someone they care for have experienced gun violence in their lifetime. That’s well over half. You might be part of that 58 percent. You could become part of that 58%.
Assault weapons are disproportionately used in crimes involving multiple victims and police officers. Shooters used assault rifles in mass shootings at Sandy Hook in 2012, at an Orlando nightclub in 2016, a Las Vegas concert in 2017, at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018, and in Uvalde, TX, in 2022. The list goes on: Lewiston, Buffalo, Allen, Louisville, Nashville, Sutherland Springs, San Bernardino, Pittsburgh, El Paso, Highland Park, Colorado Springs, Indianapolis... far too many communities have been shattered by mass shootings committed using assault weapons. If we don't act now, Washington could be next.
With easy access to military-style semi-automatic assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, too many individuals have filled our schools, malls, concerts, movie theaters, places of worship, stores, workplaces, parades, and other public spaces with terror, devastation, and terrible loss.
This issue affects us all. We need you to join us now to demand the Senate put forth the Assault Weapons Ban for a vote. It’s passed the House before — it can pass in the Senate. And it would save lives. Survivors of gun violence are counting on us to take action and get this bill passed.
So act now, and join us in signing our petition, before Washington becomes the next headline.
Thanks for your support,
Democratic Values
