Given the political reality, President Biden will probably have the nomination sewn up in terms of the delegate count very soon. But it doesn’t matter. We have the conversation without which Democrats will not win in 2024. And that is why we must keep going.
The reason my agenda - an Economic Bill of Rights providing Medicare for All, tuition free college and tech school, a jobs guarantee and a guaranteed living wage - is a win for the Democrats in 2024 is because it’s a working class agenda. Working people of the U.S. are the backbone of this country, but that back has been broken. The collapse of America’s middle class over the last fifty years is not just an economic threat; it is a threat to our democracy itself. For without a thriving middle-class there can be no thriving democracy.

The middle class is hurting, and whoever is perceived to offer real help is the one who will win the election. Biden comes across like he’s in denial of the ubiquitous pain in this country; Trump comes across to many like he cares about the pain, yet we all know he has no intention of assuaging it. It is only our agenda that creates the fundamental reform sure to heal the wounds of a hurting country. Powerful forces in this country do not wish to see a genuinely working class agenda prevail, and they go to extraordinary lengths to nullify the campaign of anyone who disagrees. They literally use “political hit men” to infiltrate campaigns, smear, lie, and cheat. I wish I was kidding. It is not those who chose to run against Biden who have risked Trump’s return to power; rather, it is those who suppressed any candidacy but the President’s.
The political-media industrial complex turns elections into mere performance, a circus where they choose their clowns, a machine that eats away at the soul of our democracy. It’s very important that we not allow ourselves to get sucked into the machinery, our democracy shredded into pieces for their benefit. |
Having seen up close how the system works, I realize how important it is to hang in there despite the shenanigans of a rigged machine. We must persevere and do so happily.
This last week I spoke in Washington state and Georgia; this week I’ll be in Illinois, Arizona and Louisiana. With every primary, we are gaining votes. And with every vote, we gain more power to influence the conversation without which Trump is almost certain to return to power. Ours is the agent that would beat him, because we’ve laid out the plan for a sustainable future. Please join with me in keeping the momentum going. The system is locked up, but it’s our job to unlock it. |
