Folks,

Immediately after sending the message below yesterday, news broke about John Barnett, the most prominent whistleblower to expose Boeing’s brazenly unethical and unsafe conduct, having died of suicide.

John was in South Carolina, where he had just finished hours of testimony in a lawsuit against the company into which he poured 32 years of his life.

John retired from Boeing in 2017, where he had been serving as a Quality Manager overseeing a major manufacturing facility. Two years before his retirement, he filed a whistleblower complaint to try and stop the egregious problems he saw in manufacturing quality and airplane safety.

If Boeing – or their government regulators – had taken John seriously when he first filed his complaint, there is no question in my mind that 346 passengers who died in the twin 737 Max crashes in 2018 and 2019 would still be alive today.

And so, I am certain, would John.

Our government is supposed to protect whistleblowers and act swiftly to address the concerns they raise. But too many of our politicians are more concerned with protecting Boeing’s reputation than protecting public safety.

At this time, I have not located a direct fundraiser to support John’s family. In lieu of that, I would ask that you consider a contribution to the National Whistleblower Center today.

When I get to Congress, I will honor John’s memory by fighting for stronger whistleblower protections, and fighting to end the corporate capture of our government.

Rest in power, John. And thank you for your courage.

In solidarity,

Jason

Subject: The wheels are coming off at Boeing

Folks In January, a door plug blew off of a Boeing plane moments into the flight.

Last week, a WHEEL fell off a Boeing plane during take-off.

After two catastrophic, deadly crashes, YEARS of whistleblowers raising the alarm, and now two more major incidents back-to-back, there is a reckoning coming for the world’s largest aerospace company.

But Boeing did not get here on their own. A whole lot of lawmakers were complicit along the way. And chief among them is my opponent, Rick Larsen, which I broke down in detail in this op-ed published more than two years ago.

Rick Larsen has been the ranking Democratic member of the House Aviation Subcommittee for over a decade, and now the ranking member of the Transportation Committee as well.

It was Rick who pushed the FAA to deregulate the aviation industry and allow manufacturers like Boeing to “police themselves” on matters of public safety.

It was Rick who looked the other way while the FAA investigated Boeing for battery fires on-board in 2013.

And it was Rick Larsen who, according to Politico, just “threw cold water” on the idea of a congressional hearing calling Boeing to the carpet.

A graphic featuring a faded black and white photo of Rick Larsen, with a cutout quote from Politico, that reads: “I personally don’t think that having a hearing with Boeing does a lot of good.”

Rick Larsen is the poster boy for how corporate capture of our government regulatory bodies harms the public. As far as I’m concerned, his hands are covered with the blood of 346 Boeing 737 Max victims.

Larsen won’t hold Boeing accountable, but I will. I need your help to defeat Larsen and become the first ever Green Party member elected to Congress. Can you pitch in $25, $50, or whatever you can give today?

Once the pride of Washington State and still America’s largest exporter, the downfall of Boeing is a confluence of corporate corruption and failed government oversight.

Millions of people around the world get on board Boeing planes every single day. They deserve to know they are safe, and Boeing can no longer skate on their former reputation. It’s time to hold Boeing accountable.

Rick Larsen has taken over a million dollars from the aviation industry over his lengthy political career. Over 10% of that comes from just one company – Boeing. Is it any wonder he refuses to hold a hearing?

Unlike Rick, I can never be bought off by corrupt actors like Boeing because I don’t take their money. Can you pitch in $25 today to help me defeat Rick Larsen and elect a representative who will hold Boeing’s feet to the fire?

If we want real oversight that puts people before profits in Congress, we have to elect working people who don’t sell out to corporate donors.

I’ve never taken a dime from corporate PACs or lobbyists, and I never will.

In solidarity,
