Speaker McClinton is a trailblazer. When she was first elected to the State House, she was one of just nine Black women in the General Assembly. As the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House, House Democratic Leader, or House Democratic Caucus Chair, Joanna McClinton is paving the way for more women to run, lead, and serve.
Right now, Joanna is focusing on using her speakership as an opportunity to do good and make a difference. With grace, kindness, and respect at the forefront, we’re so excited to see what we can accomplish this year. In just her first year as Speaker, House Democrats have already accomplished and delivered on what Republicans have not been able to.
