Mixed Results from ICJ Ruling on Israel Genocide Charge |
In response to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) preliminary ruling on South Africa’s accusation that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, ADL initiated a statement on behalf of the J7, the Large Jewish Communities’ Task Force Against Antisemitism. The statement noted the ICJ’s appropriate rejection of South Africa’s extreme demand for an Israeli ceasefire, as well as the Court’s call for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.
The J7 further expressed disappointment that the Court issued a series of provisional measures against Israel. The statement explained that the claims are part of a broader and morally obscene, anti-Israel campaign, led by South Africa, with the backing of the Iranian regime and other governments hostile to the Jewish State, aimed at weakening Israel’s international standing, while bolstering the image of Hamas and other terrorist organizations committed to Israel’s violent destruction.

In a related op-ed, Ken Jacobson, Deputy National Director, attacked South Africa for its baseless charge, explaining that the more relevant genocidal party here is Hamas with its founding charter which states very clearly the group’s genocidal intent vis-a-vis Israel and Jews.

Doron Almog to announce a new partnership to combat antisemitism, strengthen Jewish identity and connect Jews to Israel and one another. The announcement, which was made at a gathering of over 350 Jewish Agency emissaries serving throughout North America, comes as antisemitic in the US and around the world is spiking.
As part of the agreement, ADL will support the Jewish Agency’s emissaries with programs and training sessions about antisemitism to support their work with Jewish communities throughout the United States, from college campuses to community centers, and from summer camps to synagogues.
