What happened at Never Is Now last week? We learned, we connected and we committed to doing the work.

John, as I stood there on the mainstage with 4,000 members of the ADL community in person (and thousands more joining us online), I felt tremendous gratitude. Not only because of our shared values, but because... let’s face it. No one can fight antisemitism alone.

We were reminded in an extraordinary way at Never Is Now that amidst our differences, together we can use our shared values and our shared strength to find the way forward in combatting hate in the October 8th world.

We were moved by U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland’s emotional address that connected his family’s American Jewish story of finding shelter from persecution in other nations to his deep commitment to protecting everyone in this country from the hate-fueled violence that seeks to fracture our society. He emphasized how he quickly directed U.S. Attorneys’ offices and FBI offices to aggressively take on the stunning increase in threats against Jews since the Hamas terrorist massacre and taking of hostages in Israel on October 7.

We were inspired by author Dara Horn’s call to fearlessly say what everyone else is afraid to say when university leaders are silent after loud voices on campus deny the shocking reality faced by Jewish students and claim that antisemitism is somehow a righteous act.

We were warmed by the bravery of Nuseir Yassin, the well-deserved honoree of this year’s Daniel Pearl Award. His Nas Daily social media posts have helped him reach over 300 million people as he personifies how words build bridges. At Never Is Now, he praised peacemakers in the room and around the world for taking the risks needed for coexistence.

These were just three of the 100+ renowned experts and leaders we heard from at the event. The impact of Never Is Now didn’t just come from the speakers. It came from everyone who came together for information and community.

We were joined by nearly a thousand students from high schools and colleges in the U.S. and other countries. At the same time these young leaders were finding inspiration and ideas in our summit sessions, they helped inspire all of us about the vitality of Jewish student life even at a time of tension and hostility.

Friends, now we need to keep the momentum going.

As a leading voice for better hate crime reporting, ADL is proud to have worked with Reps. Beyer and Bacon to unveil the bipartisan Improving Reporting to Prevent Hate Act at Never Is Now.

‘Never Is Now Next.’

As I said at the end of my annual State of Hate address during Never Is Now, “at this moment... in this October 8th world, we will not be silent. We will not let our country be lost to the antisemites and bigots.”

Together we are speaking up when others are silent. Together, we are a light against the darkness. Together, we are making a difference.

Thank you for all you do to Fight Hate for Good with ADL.
Sincerely,

Jonathan Greenblatt
CEO and National Director
