Dear John,
Happy Women's History Month! At ARC we are proud to celebrate all women every day, including those who are currently and formerly incarcerated.
Please join us in this celebration by attending our "Women Do Reentry Differently" panel event on Friday, March 22nd at 12pm PT. This event will be moderated by Toni Michelle White, an ARC Board Member, who is also a formerly incarcerated women and will feature two panelists:
- Norma Cumpian: ARC's Assistant Deputy Director and founder of ARC's Women Department, and
- Veronica Varner: An Associate Clinical Social Worker at HOPE Program and the Heart Therapy Center. She wrote her thesis focused on women’s reentry experiences while interning at ARC as part of her Master’s in Social Work program at California State University, Los Angeles.

Veronica spent close to a year interning at ARC, where she learned from and listened to those with lived experience. She ultimately chose to uplift the voices of ARC women (both staff and Members) in her thesis: “The Way Society Views How Women Should Re-Enter Is Important: A Needs Assessment For Women In Reentry In California". We then published segments of her thesis into our "Women Do Reentry Differently" handbook and will be discussing these recommendations from this handbook on our panel discussion. Recognizing the unique reentry needs that formerly incarcerated women face, Norma Cumpian, a formerly incarcerated women herself, founded ARC's Womens Department. ARC now provide inside programming to all women's prisons in California, lead advocacy reforms specifically around the needs of currently and formerly incarcerated women, and offer tailored reentry support to this population.
Join this panel to hear three experts in women's reentry discuss their experiences inside, their reentry experiences, what they're doing to help, and what the field can learn from their findings. As always, thank you for your interest in our work. We look forward to seeing you then.
Sincerely,
Sam Lewis
