Grassroots-led and situated right at the intersection of industry, politics and society, unions play a critical role in fighting for and maintaining women’s participation in the workforce, especially for marginalized women workers. And for many workers, participating in a union is one of their few opportunities to experience democracy and wield power and effect change in their workplaces and their communities. Through organizing, trade unions offer workers the tools to fight against and overcome poverty and discrimination.
