1) Eight States Still Haven’t Recovered Lost Jobs From COVID – Seven of Them Are Blue States
The 8th – Louisiana – is a red state that only recently replaced a Democratic governor and has lots of catching up to do.

The latest state job numbers have just been released and they show a remarkably poor performance for high tax and Covid-lockdown states.

The chart below shows that two years after the end of the pandemic, eight states are still underwater on jobs.

Did we mention that nine of the 10 states with the highest job creation since 2020 are red states?

Every one of those red states kept their economy mostly open during COVID and four of the states have no income tax – including light blue Nevada.

The lesson: keep your taxes low and keep your economy open. How hard is that?

2) Tax 'n Spend, Tax 'n Spend, Tax 'n Spend
It's hard to believe that it was less than 30 years ago that Democratic President Bill Clinton famously announced to the nation that "the era of big government is over." Joe Biden's new $7.3 trillion budget is an attempt to ensure that big, expensive, intrusive, and incompetent government is here to stay. And so are the higher taxes – $5 trillion over the next decade – to pay for it.

We're not sure if avowed "Democratic Socialist" Bernie Sanders could have envisioned a progressive paradise like this. We shine the spotlight on the budget because Americans need to know what's in store if they opt for "four more years."
* Ten-year deficits that would add an average of $1.5 trillion to the debt with not even a pretense of approaching a balanced budget – ever.
* Ten-year spending: An additional $1.7T of spending increases – on top of the $6 trillion in Biden's first term.
* Tax revenues approach an all-time record of 20% of GDP with $5 trillion tax hikes – mostly on American businesses large and small.
* Ten-year interest costs rise by $12.2T.
* Spending and waste reductions – none that we could discover.

We don’t think either party right now is supporting the deep cuts in wasteful spending that are necessary to tame the volcano of expenditures in Washington, but this chart from the House Republicans is an interesting compare and contrast between the two parties right now.

Biden says that the lines are now drawn between the two parties' vision of America's fiscal future. Finally, he's starting to tell the truth.

3) Reagan Explains to Johny Carson Why Taxing Businesses Screws Workers and Consumers
This video of the day is a lost classic that we wish everyone in the Biden Administration would watch. In 1975 then former Governor Ronald Reagan went on the Johnny Carson show and explained why loading businesses with new taxes never works. Notice that when he mentions a simplified flat tax the audience applauds.

No wonder they called him "the Great Communicator."

4) "Oppenheimer" Distorts Cold War History
Oppenheimer won seven Oscars on Sunday night.

Hollywood was thrilled that a tedious three-hour-long movie attracted both critical support and raked in nearly $1 billion at the box office. Too bad the premise of the movie is untrue.

A central premise of the film — that atomic bomb scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer’s career was unfairly curtailed after the 1954 revocation of his security clearance — doesn’t hold up to even the paltry standards of Hollywood history. As Neal Freeman who knew some of the players in the drama writes, “Robert Oppenheimer was, beyond the slightest of all possible doubts, a security risk. The security-review panel was far from the gross miscarriage of justice that the movie depicts.”

Kai Bird, the Oppenheimer biographer whose work the movie was based on, has made clear where its politics are. He believes “the highly divisive state of US politics today can be directly traced to the 1950s McCarthyite witch hunts that brought down suspected Communist sympathizers including Oppenheimer.” This is the thinking of the same revisionists who still insist that the infamous Rosenberg Soviet spies were innocent. (Oops, this is probably Hollywood's next blockbuster.)

Oppenheimer was a hero for his work on the bomb that ended WW2, but he was also a dues-paying member of the Communist Party of the United States. The Venona files, Soviet cable traffic from the 1940s that was decrypted by the National Security Agency and released starting in 1995, confirm this. Oppenheimer was mentioned as an unlisted member of the American Communist Party in a Soviet intelligence document dated January 7, 1946.

For decades Hollywood has refused to acknowledge the security risks associated with Soviet sympathizers and spies during the Cold War. This is no doubt in part because, in the 1940s and 1950s, so many Hollywood producers and writers were avowed Stalin supporters and propagandists even as he was butchering millions of Jews and anti-communists. They have blood on their hands.

Will Hollywood ever produce a movie admitting that?

5) Mask Mandater Admits the Masks Are Just for Show
Here is a remarkable exchange between a citizen whose wife struggles to breathe with a mask and Jeffrey Duchin, the Health Office of Public Health for Seattle and King County:
