SCOTUS Blows Up Limits on Judicial Review for Criminal Aliens

On Monday, the Supreme Court issued a decision in Guerrero-Lasprilla v. Barr. The decision blows up what had been limited judicial review for criminal aliens, and gives aliens who have long since been ordered removed the opportunity to seek judicial review of denials of their motions to reopen their cases. Most critically, it upsets the separation of powers between Congress and the courts.
IRS, Which Often Ignores Migration Issues, Will Send Out the $1,200 Checks

It appears that the Internal Revenue Service, which tries to avoid immigration issues whenever it can, will be tasked with the distribution of the $1,200 coronavirus relief checks. I worry that large numbers of illegal aliens — those in the country for a couple of years — will get these checks.

'Remain in Mexico' Hearings Cancelled Through April 22

On Monday, the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), the Department of Justice component with jurisdiction over the immigration courts, announced that all hearings for respondents covered by the Migrant Protection Protocols ("MPP", better known as "Remain in Mexico") presently scheduled through April 22 are being rescheduled. Those hearings, and MPP itself will continue, however.
Costa Rica and Panama Loosen Border for Thousands of U.S.-Bound Migrants

The governments of Panama and Costa Rica have announced a joint plan to allow more than 2,600 U.S.-bound migrants to pass through their countries. According to authorities, the extra-continental migrant procession is composed of foreign nationals from Africa, Asia, Haiti, and Cuba. Before enacting the new border policy, the neighboring Central American nations restricted non-citizens from entering their countries to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
