Arlington Residents and Friends,

As you may know, over the weekend, Arlington passed a painful point: we lost two of our residents to COVID 19.

This is not unanticipated and we are working continuously to keep you safe, but this tragedy shows just how serious this is:

First Two Deaths in Arlington Due to the Coronavirus

“We are saddened by the deaths of two Arlington County residents related to COVID-19. Our hearts go out to their loved ones,” said Arlington Health District Director Dr. Reuben Varghese."

“These deaths, along with the increasing numbers of coronavirus cases we are seeing in the region, are a reminder that we all must be vigilant to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus."

"The health of our residents is our top priority and we know our residents and our community share that priority. We ask that everyone do their part to prevent germ spread: practice social distancing, wash your hands, and cover your coughs and sneezes.”

We must act based on how serious this is for us here in Arlington, right now.  In other words, we must keep our physical distance. That means:
  • Maintain social distancing by being at least 6 feet apart from others;
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds;  Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer only if soap and water are not available;
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth as much as possible;
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing;
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces;
  • Stay home when you are sick;
  • When you do go outside for food, medicine, or exercise away from others, do not touch your face and wash your hands as soon as you come back inside.
Arlington is at risk and we must act to make sure we keep ourselves healthy.

And we must also stay poised and be kind to each other. That means staying emotionally connected by telling our family and friends we love them, and noticing the good in each other.

We  are in the heart of the vital period when we must stop this terrible virus, and we must sustain ourselves and each other over the coming weeks.

Sincerely,

Matt
