JERRY NEWCOMBE — It seems like everyone is talking these days about Rob Reiner’s hit-job movie against the religious right, "God & Country." It makes “Christian nationalists” into the bogeyman. Although I travel in the circles of Christian conservatives, I have yet to meet anyone who has actually seen Reiner’s movie. But I have seen a trailer for it. The thesis of the movie is that “Christian nationalists” are bad and are trying to take over the nation and turn it into something it was never intended to be.... (more)

JOHN DANIEL DAVIDSON OF THE FEDERALIST — Hot on the heels of a 9-0 Supreme Court ruling on Monday that states have “no power” to remove former President Donald Trump from the ballot, Democrats and their lackeys in the corporate press denounced the court for supposedly meddling or interfering in the election. “Not since Bush v. Gore have we seen a court that’s had this many opportunities to interfere in the election,” said former Rep. Donna Edwards on MSNBC. NEWSWEEK — Republicans in Texas sent a message to their party that they want to remove property taxes in the state, after a vast majority voted yes to a proposition during Tuesday's primary on whether the state "should eliminate all property taxes without increasing Texans' overall tax burden." JUST THE NEWS — The Supreme Court on Monday unanimously ruled that former President Donald Trump can remain on the 2024 presidential ballot in a decision that comes one day before the Colorado Republican primary after the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that the top Republican contender is ineligible. The Supreme Court ruled that the "responsibility for enforcing" the 14th Amendment's "insurrection" clause "against federal officeholders and candidates rests with Congress and not the States."... TAX POLICY CENTER — Last month, an Idaho lawmaker called the property tax “inherently evil” and suggested the state repeal it and replace the foregone revenue with a higher sales tax. He described the property tax in feudal terms, saying it “dates back to the dark ages or the middle ages when the lords of the manor had to pay taxes to the Kings and the Queens, otherwise they didn't get to keep their land.” This caught my attention because I’m a nerdy tax economist and we are known for loving property taxes while the general public, well, doesn’t. So my first, pedantic reaction was to tweet that, actually, the property tax dates to 6,000 B.C. And it performs very well on criteria of sound taxation like efficiency, equity, and reliability.... NEW YORK POST — Very little is known about Russia’s alleged satellite-killing and nuclear ambitions in space which sent some members of Congress into full-blown panic mode this week.
