Hello friend,

Last week we emailed you about our campaign for a new law to help win debt cancellation for lower income countries. If you already added your name, thank you! Now I’m asking if you’ll be able to go one step further?

2024 is a big year in politics. Soon, the government will announce a general election, giving us the opportunity to influence candidates at a time when winning our approval means everything to them.

And we need you to join us.

We’re recruiting an election squad – a small team of activists who’ll embark on a six-month programme to take our campaign for a new law to cancel the debt to another level.

You don’t need any campaigning experience – we'll provide you with all the training, materials and support you need to become an effective campaigner. We’ll help you take action in your local area, and we’ll cover your costs to attend a national stunt against a private creditor, that you can help plan.

Not for over twenty years has there been such a need for politicians to prioritise debt cancellation. Right now, countries in debt crisis are being held to ransom by big banks and hedge funds, like financial giant BlackRock. These lenders are making millions in interest payments while lower income countries are left without enough money to pay for health, education or to respond to the climate crisis. Over 54 countries are in debt crisis.

But the UK can play a key part in tackling the crisis. 90% of lending for lower income countries is governed by UK law, putting us in a unique position help to tackle the crisis.

The incoming government can pass legislation to cancel the debt – and it’s in our power to make them.

Volunteering for the election squad means committing around an hour a week over the next six months. If you think this role is for you, just click here to find out more and apply.

Heading into an election gives us a great opportunity to put debt justice high on the political agenda. I can’t wait to have you on board friend.

In solidarity,
