Dear Friend,

I am incredibly proud to have advanced over $12 million in Community Project Funding to fund 15 critical projects in our district. This funding comes in addition to our previous success in securing $40 million for the district, totaling over $52 million. This funding will directly address the most pressing needs of our community like the affordable housing crisis, climate resiliency, food access, workforce development, and healthcare investments within Minnesota’s 5th District. This funding will help reverse decades of disinvestment in our communities and ensure that our community is healthier, stronger, and more resilient than ever. I am excited to see this funding bring us one step closer to seeing the dreams of countless district community members come true.

I had Minnesota State Representative Cedrick Frazier (DFL) as my guest for the 2024 State of the Union address. I’m grateful I had the opportunity to highlight his advocacy for voting rights in Minnesota. He authored Restore the Vote legislation, which restored the vote to over 55,000 Minnesotans. It was an incredible opportunity to show the rest of the country what is possible.

Fighting for a Permanent Ceasefire

Image

My heart breaks as the crisis in Gaza continues to worsen, with 1.5 million innocent Palestinians crowded in Rafah amidst continuous bombardment, a couple of whom are constituents in our district. Palestinians have endured decades of occupation, and I will continue to speak out against the appalling injustice we are watching unfold in Gaza. I represent our district as someone who will stand on the right side of history, and it’s our administration’s responsibility to end the massacre of Palestinians. For the sake of our humanity, we need a ceasefire now!

Delivering for the 5th District

I had the opportunity to give back to Accessible Space, Inc, an organization working to improve access to low-income housing in our district. I’m proud to have presented them with $514,000, which will ensure long-term preservation and critically important upgrades to affordable and supportive housing in Minneapolis, Golden Valley, and St. Anthony. Accessible Space’s inspiring work makes independent community living possible for adults with disabilities, seniors, and veterans in our communities. Federal support for improvements will significantly reduce maintenance expenses, prevent high-cost emergency repairs, and reduce the need for increases in contract rents, keeping resident rents affordable.

Alabama IVF Ruling

ImageIn light of the Alabama Supreme Court’s ruling last month, fighting for the protection of reproductive rights is more crucial than ever. In vitro fertilization has been life changing for countless families across the country and I will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that IVF remains legal and accessible. I am incredibly proud of the work being done within our district in the fight for reproductive rights. I recently visited Planned Parenthood’s newly expanded Uptown Health Center on what should have been the 51st Anniversary of Roe v. Wade. It was inspiring to learn firsthand how the team at Planned Parenthood is working to meet our community’s need for reproductive care since the U.S. Supreme Court gutted Roe’s historic protections.

Minnesota's Fifth District high school students are invited to submit their original artwork for my annual Congressional Art Competition. This year's theme is "North Star State of Mind" - exploring what it means to be Minnesotan through art. The winning artist will receive two plane tickets to Washington, D.C. and have their work displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. Submissions in qualifying mediums like paintings, drawings, prints, mixed media, and photography are due by 5:00 p.m. on April 17, 2024.
