Last year, more than 47,000 LCV members wrote to the Biden-Harris administration to demand action to limit soot pollution and clean up the air we breathe. We overcame fierce opposition from corporate polluters, proving — once again — just how powerful our movement can be when we join together to demand a better future for people and our planet.

More than 20 million Americans experience dangerous levels of soot pollution each year. These new protections will bring relief to communities of color and low-wealth communities, which too often experience disproportionate health impacts due to exposure to soot pollution from power plants, industry, and heavy traffic.

These new protections cut the annual limits for soot pollution by a quarter and are a giant step forward. We’re urging the Biden-Harris administration to work quickly with states and local air districts to implement these much-improved standards and bring relief to frontline communities, while also using every other tool possible to cut other health-harming and climate pollution.
