John,
Today is my mom’s birthday. It’s the twenty-first birthday that I don’t get to celebrate with her.
For many years after my mom was murdered, I could only focus on trying to do the next right thing. And running was literally that, I was putting a foot in front of the other and moving forward. I ran for a decade, until they finally convicted the man who killed my mom – and then I ran a whole marathon.
Seven years ago, today, I stood at the starting line in freezing temperatures and sleet. I had raised over $30,000 for Brady while I trained, and as I ran 26 miles on what would have been my mom’s 70th birthday, I finally realized the next right thing to do: Use my voice to become a leader in this movement. Brady allowed me to do that, and since then I haven’t stopped using my experience as a survivor to work toward ending the gun violence epidemic that took my mom.
And, John, today I’m asking you to join me in celebrating my mom’s birthday and honoring her life. Because I’m fighting alongside my partners at Brady every day for a future where no one has to miss a birthday. It’s how we’ve already come so far in our fight, with President Biden at the helm of a gun violence prevention majority Congress. Biden has urged Congress to pass common sense legislation, the kind that could’ve saved my mother’s life, but if we are going to finally pass lifesaving laws I need you with me.
Will you donate now and help me celebrate my mom’s birthday by supporting Brady's fight to pass common sense gun violence prevention legislation and save lives? [[link removed]]

I’m missing my mom a lot – I do every day – but I’m still fighting my hardest to save lives. And I hope you will join me in celebrating her life today. Like I often say, this work is a marathon, not a sprint. Thank you, John .
