Happy March!

Last week, President Biden held his State of The Union Address. This speech was more akin to a DNC nomination speech rather than a SOTU. From pronouncing Laken Riley's name as "Lincoln", to talking about foreign countries before our own, this speech was a resounding failure. The state of our union is weak, because of President Biden.
Last week, BMP endorsed candidate Brandon Gill defied expectations and won his primary outright for TX-26 Congressional district. He will be a fighter for the American people in Congress!
Original Medicare covers hospital stays and doctors, but it only goes so far. There’s no catastrophic coverage, so seniors have to get Medigap coverage in case of an emergency. It includes no prescription plan, no vision, or dental coverage. In fact, when Sen. Bernie Sanders tried to expand Medicare to include vision and dental coverage, it was estimated to cost at least $350 billion over 10 years.

Supporting Medicare Advantage and making sure it has adequate funding is a winning issue for Republicans. A working-class, diverse GOP should embrace a program chosen by the non-elite. And remember, seniors vote!
On Wednesday, Congress will vote on HR 7521, The Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. This bill will force ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok to divest the app. If divesture does not occur, the app will be banned. TikTok is a direct line to millions of Americans from the CCP, one of our greatest adversaries.
When Congress fails to take action to support Americans, State Legislatures must step up to the plate. Here is a preview of some of our favorite legislation across the country:
  • HB 5690, introduced by Del. Jarred Cannon will create the West Virginia Task Force on Artificial Intelligence. As this technology continues to be developed, states must act with urgency to understand the impacts it may have on Americans and their day-to-day life.
  • HR 5219, introduced by Rep. Adam Morgan mandates that all committee and subcommittee meetings must be live-streamed for the public. Americans deserve transparency from their elected representatives.
  • HB 298, introduced by Rep. Tyler Clancy reforms the Utah Homeless Services Board and requires state and local councils to establish goals for making progress towards exiting individuals from homelessness.
