Hi John,
We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to protect our planet for generations. We can secure one of our best defences against climate change, protect wildlife, nature and communities around the world. But we need the UK government to act.
Can you make sure we don’t waste this chance and call on the UK government to pass the Global Ocean Treaty into law immediately?

We can protect 30% of our oceans in just 6 years.
-----------------
Our oceans absorb roughly 30% of all fossil-fuel related emissions. [1] That makes protecting our oceans one of the best defenses we have against catastrophic climate change.
A year ago, all UN member countries adopted the historic Global Oceans Treaty; a commitment to protect 30% of our oceans by 2030 - currently less than 3% are protected. [2,3]
Getting the Treaty agreed was a huge milestone that should inspire hope, but for it to come into effect we need 60 governments to pass it into law. One year on and only two - Chile and Palau - have done that. [4]
Can you call on the UK government to show leadership and take action to protect our oceans?

Tell the UK government to pass the Treaty into law now.
-----------------
The UK government was a vocal player in treaty negotiations, but now they are dragging their heels. They consider themselves an ocean protection leader, but this is hugely at odds with the government delaying action on the Treaty and their aggressive strategy to max out oil and gas from the North Sea. [5]
We’ve gotten so far, we can’t throw decades of work down the drain. That’s why I’m asking you to take action.
People power works, we’re only in this position thanks to millions of people demanding more from their leaders. Last year we managed to stop deep sea mining from going ahead, and get both Labour and the Conservatives to come out against it. [6,7,8] We can have an impact. Your voice matters - make sure you use it.
