The House was adjourned for the week so minimal work at the Capitol and in committees was done.

Hello,
This newsletter will be as short as the past week at the Capitol was. Seventeen lawmakers were gone so the House adjourned early every day with minimal agendas, if any, in committees. Governor Hobbs stayed hard at work though, as she issued her first veto on one of the controversial immigration bills I mentioned in last week’s newsletter.
The condensed week at the legislature means we will have to play major catch-up on the back end. However, I was fortunate to spend my ‘spring break’ meeting with constituents, advocacy groups, and my work at the Arizona Community Foundation. It is a gift to be able to align my passion for community in both spaces.
I am sure there will be plenty more to report back to you next week. As always, if you encounter bills in my committees or on issues you care about, please reach out to me!
All my best,
Sarah
** Price-Fixing Focus
------------------------------------------------------------
This week I sat down with Attorney General Kris Mayes to learn more about the rental price-fixing lawsuit tied to software company Real Page and nine Phoenix and Tucson area landlords. What we are learning is that Real Page may have artificially raised rents while colluding to stifle competition. The following day, AG Mayes’s Real Page lawsuit was also featured in a Local Progress webinar: Algorithmic Rental Price Fixing.
The American Economic Liberties Project presented on data that shows growing negative bipartisan sentiment towards corporate mergers and monopolies. Lawsuits like Arizona’s, and legislation like the Colorado House just passed limiting the use of algorithms in rental pricing, will help protect consumers from harmful practices in an already precarious housing affordability crisis.

I am a longtime admirer of Denise Resnick and the vision she brought to life at First Place. Cofounding the Southern Autism Research and Resource Center (SARRC) in 1997, Denise then developed First Place as a residential housing community for adults with autism and/or other intellectual/developmental disabilities. Here, residents thrive in a supportive environment as they gain the knowledge and tools to live their best lives.
