Memphis-Midsouth DSA
Hello comrade,
We have some timely updates for our chapter. Now is a time to embark on new work together.
There are two parts to this email:
- An update and invitation to in the coming weeks shape the future work of our chapter.
- An announcement of an important upcoming event and our future meetings.
This last week our Investigation Ad Hoc Committee met and reviewed several reports from members on prospective areas of work. Those present decided to move forward and prepare resolutions for our next General Meeting in April for two long-term Organizing Committees (permanent bodies dedicated to long term goals).
Please fill out this meeting poll so we can schedule an informal meeting before the end of March to discuss those draft resolutions and where members (including you) can propose their own.
The two proposed Organizing Committees we are currently moving forward with are:
-
Legislation and Representation
Focused on representation reform on a municipal and state level, efforts for new laws or regulations, and occasionally electoral campaigns.
- Examples of its work range from overturning anti-Boycott Divest and Sanction laws to changing the meeting times of the Memphis City Council.
-
Point of Production
Organizing to build the labor movement and to support cooperatives as well as other pro-worker businesses.
However, if there is another area of work you want us to establish a committee for, please get in touch! Our Steering Committee is committed to helping facilitate the work you want to do toward a socialist future. For example, we have a preponderance of educators in our chapter. Perhaps they want to form an Education Organizing Committee aimed at free, quality and truthful education at all levels?
Get in touch if you have any questions or thoughts you want to share.
Join the Tennessee Coalition for Truth in Education in an upcoming, statewide webinar on the 21st of March!
Memphis Midsouth DSA General Meeting Schedule:
April 9th, June 11th, August 13th, October 8th, and December 10th at 6pm.
