Dear John,
Here we are at the start of a new election year, and Louis DeJoy is still Postmaster General.
We remember the 2020 election year, when DeJoy actively enabled Team Trump, suppressing the vote by decommissioning thousands of mail pickup sites just before the election so they would not be available to receive any Vote-at-Home ballots. Trump lost, but Louis DeJoy is still running the U.S. Postal Service.
DeJoy is working on his 10-year plan to privatize and destroy the Post Office. Since 2020, mail delivery has slowed, rates have increased five times, dozens of post offices have closed, and thousands of jobs have been lost.
It’s long past time for DeJoy to be gone, but only the USPS Board of Governors can remove the Postmaster General. Now the terms of allies of DeJoy’s, holdovers from the Trump administration, have expired. The USPS needs public servants committed to expanding post office services, and keeping the U.S. Postal Service from privatization.
Tell President Biden: It’s time to appoint more USPS Governors who will be willing to fire Louis DeJoy and expand USPS services now.
DeJoy has cut over 30 million hours of staffing, reduced the wages of two-thirds of rural mail carriers, and increased the price for delivering local newspapers by one third. Many local papers are already hanging on by a thread as they face competition from online news options, so these rate increases could mean the end of local journalism for these communities.
We need all USPS Governors to advocate for the public Postal Service and against De Joy’s destructive agenda. The Post Office needs a new vision, including the introduction of expanded services such as postal banking. Over 80 Congress members agree, including members of the House Oversight committee that oversees the USPS.
Sign the petition: President Biden must nominate more Governors to the USPS Board who will remove DeJoy and expand postal services now.
Thank you for keeping the Post Office open.
