Specifically, the funds will go towards 15 Community Project Funding (CPF) Requests Andrew advocated for on behalf of local municipalities and organizations for local sewer and flood resiliency projects, housing and transportation projects, workforce training, and more. All of these projects will serve to benefit the public and have widespread community support. Andrew is proud to be able to deliver this federal funding directly to his constituency and to be able to ensure that Washington is working for Long Islanders. ANDREW IN THE NEWS OPINION: Why the Senate must hold an impeachment trial for Alejandro Mayorkas: Americans deserve the truth By Andrew Garbarino and August Pfulger " The House of Representatives recently voted to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on two articles: willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law and breach of public trust. The Senate is now responsible for holding a thorough trial and showing the evidence to the American people. From Texas to New York, every state in the nation has felt the impact of Mayorkas’ abject failure to secure the border and stem the tide of illegal immigration. When the Homeland Security Committee, of which we are members, voted to send articles of impeachment to the House floor, we did so informed by significant evidence and witness testimony gathered throughout a months-long investigation. Now we urge our counterparts in the Senate to give these articles of impeachment due consideration so that they, and the American people, can hear the truth of how this crisis came to be...Mayorkas bears responsibility for the influx of illegal immigrants...He abused his parole authority, which by law should be used “only on a case-by-case basis,” to grant it for millions. He repeatedly violated the Immigration and Nationality Act, made multiple false statements to Congress and obstructed lawful oversight of his department. History tells us the constitutional basis for impeachment of “high crimes and misdemeanors” was not meant to encompass only indictable crimes, but also the broader concepts of abuse of power and injury to the nation, which the secretary has certainly inflicted. WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Andrew Celebrates Irish-American Community As we approach St. Patrick's Day, Andrew has had the privilege of celebrating with communities across NY-02, including recently at the East Islip St. Patrick’s Day Parade and the Bay Shore-Brightwaters St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The Irish-American community has contributed so much to Long Island and Andrew is proud to stand with them in this celebration of their heritage. Andrew Recognizes New Eagle Scout In North Babylon Boy Scout Troop 399 recently held a Court of Honor to recognize its newest Eagle Scout, Liam Kieran, at North Babylon High School. Eagle Scout is the highest rank a Boy Scout can achieve. Since the rank of Eagle Scout was established, only 4% of Scouts have successfully earned this rank. Andrew was proud to provide a Congressional Certificate of Recognition for his achievement which was possible through hard work and dedication. Congratulations Liam! CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Andrew Helps Deliver Social Security Payment A constituent contacted Andrew's office after she failed to receive her first Social Security check when it was due to arrive. She contacted the Social Security Administration (SSA) to inquire and learned that they had the wrong bank account number associated with her. SSA then stated they have to wait for the deposit into the incorrect account to be returned to SSA before they can redeposit into her correct account meaning she would go without desperately needed funds. Andrew's casework team contacted the SSA on her behalf to resolve the issue and she received the check she was entitled to into her savings account promptly. Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the government. If you need help dealing with a federal agency, contact our office and our team will get to work on your case. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Votes To Protect Americans Like Laken Riley Laken Riley was a 22-year-old nursing student who was murdered at the hands of an illegal immigrant on the University of Georgia campus. Her killer was apprehended and released twice before her murder - once at the Southern Border and once when he was arrested in New York and released without bail. That's why this week, the House passed the Laken Riley Act in her honor and to protect innocent Americans like her from criminals who are here illegally. This bill requires ICE to arrest illegal immigrants who commit theft and mandates that they be detained until they are removed from the country. It also supersedes Sanctuary laws like we have in New York. Andrew Stands With Firefighters Suffering Toxic Exposure This week, Andrew voted to reauthorize the Firefighter Cancer Registry. Firefighters are exposed to chemicals on the fireground that could increase their risk of developing cancer. There are many unanswered questions about how cancer risk may vary across our nation’s fire service. In 2018, Congress passed the Firefighter Cancer Registry Act, which directed NIOSH to develop a registry to study cancer among firefighters. The Firefighter Cancer Registry Reauthorization Act of 2023 ensures continued funding for the program for five more years. Thanks for reading!
