Friend,

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) dealt a major blow to the survival of gray wolves last month when it rejected a petition to restore federal protections for the species in the Northern Rockies – a region where barbaric state laws allow hunters to use snaring, baiting, night shooting, and other cruel tactics to kill these vulnerable animals.

Now, to make matters worse, anti-wildlife members of Congress are coordinating with special interests like the National Rifle Association and farming lobbyists to remove Endangered Species Act protections for even more wolves.

If they succeed, it will mean a death sentence for countless gray wolves – an ecologically critical species that has already been pushed to the brink of extinction before. Will you help us protect them by taking part in our Spring Wildlife Drive today, Friend?

We need 250 Sierra Club supporters to become a member with a gift of just $15 or more by March 14 to help defend endangered wildlife and the environment we all share. Join the Sierra Club now!

We know what happens when a campaign to exterminate gray wolves succeeds – because it happened before, back in the 1800s. Hundreds of thousands of animals were shot, trapped, and poisoned. And as these top predators disappeared from the landscape, the health of the overall ecosystem was thrown wildly out of balance.

People like you rescued gray wolves from extinction by demanding an end to the slaughter and fighting for wildlife protections. But today we're facing another critical turning point for the species, as lawmakers push forward with bills that would strip life-saving protections from wolves.

The Sierra Club is fighting back on every front. Along with our partners, we've notified the USFWS that its denial of the petition violated the ESA, setting the stage for a potential lawsuit. In addition to developing potential litigation, our team is working tirelessly to defeat dangerous legislation that would imperil wolves and other endangered species as they struggle to survive in the face of habitat loss, climate change, and other existential threats.

We must take decisive action to protect them NOW, before more wolves are needlessly killed – but we need your help. Please, become a Sierra Club member to protect wildlife today and help us reach our 250 donor goal before the Spring Wildlife Drive ends on March 14.

We cannot stand by and allow anti-wildlife lawmakers and special interests to push their radical agenda and ignore the American people who want healthy, abundant wildlife on our public lands. The time to act is now – and I hope you'll stand with us in defense of the gray wolves and endangered species who need us.

Thanks for your support,

Nick Gevock
