President Biden spoke about the progress we have made toward lowering prescription drug prices for our seniors and capping insulin costs. 

He stressed the need to strengthen our national response to the overdose crisis and stop the flow of fentanyl. 

He addressed his work to lower costs for hardworking families to give them some breathing room. 

He highlighted efforts to ensure the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share in taxes. 

He emphasized the need for Republicans to come back to the negotiating table and work with Democrats to enact immigration reform and fix our broken system. 

And, he outlined why the United States must continue to stand with our allies in Ukraine and beyond to protect democracy and freedom around the world.

My Democratic women colleagues and I wore white to underscore the importance of protecting reproductive freedom.

I was especially glad President Biden addressed the urgent need to protect abortion access and reproductive freedom at the federal level. Ongoing extreme, right-wing attacks on bodily autonomy in New Hampshire and all across the country threaten the health and well-being of millions of women and their families. I will continue working with the administration to protect access to abortion and all reproductive care, from IVF treatments to contraception. 

The ongoing, extreme right-wing assault on personal freedom and reproductive health care — including in New Hampshire — threatens the well-being of women and families across our country. We must uplift the stories of those impacted by these extreme attacks on our bodily autonomy. 

I was honored to bring Michelle Cilley Foisy from Temple as my guest for the President’s State of the Union address. Michelle’s advocacy and courage are inspirational, and her story reflects those of thousands of women and families nationwide.

Michelle was 22 weeks pregnant when she and her husband learned that their unborn child, Kayla, had fatal fetal anomalies and would not survive outside of the womb. Michelle and her husband made the painful choice to terminate the pregnancy when they were informed of their daughter’s condition. Michelle began sharing her story in the wake of New Hampshire passing a 24-week abortion ban, which initially did not include exceptions for fatal fetal diagnoses and the life of the pregnant person. She is also critical of the New Hampshire state legislature’s attempts to restrict trans youth participation in school sports.

Thank you to Michelle for being willing to share her story with me at the State of the Union address. Her advocacy is an inspiration!
