Most of the issues that Americans care about, can’t even get an up or down vote in the United States Senate.
And there’s one big reason why: the filibuster. This is a rule that requires 60 Senators to agree before any bill can even come to the floor for an up-or-down vote.
Here’s what I told voters in Macomb County about this topic:
When popular legislation can’t even get an up-or-down vote on the floor of the Senate and when Senators don’t have to go on record on these important issues, we’ve got a real problem. That’s why I’m loud and proud about reforming the filibuster.
But none of that will matter if Republicans control the Senate.
