96th Oscars/Academy Awards: March 10

The 2021 Annual Business Survey reported 25,755 employer firms in motion picture and sound recording industries, 229,763 employees, and a $19.1 billion annual payroll.

Sunshine Week: March 10-16

Freedom of Information Day: March 16

President Johnson signed into law the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act on July 4, 1966. The American Society of News Editors launched Sunshine Week in 2005.

Equal Pay Day: March 12

In 1973, full-time working women earned a median of 56.6 cents to every dollar men earned. In 2022 (49 years later), women earned 84.0, a gain of 27.4 cents.

Pi Day: March 14

The first 6 digits of pi (π) are 3.14159, which means it's a good time to celebrate on March 14 (3/14) at 1:59 (am/pm). Pi is infinitely long, a never-ending number.

National Potato Chip Day: March 14

The U.S. exported $230.6 million of potato chips (“prepared or preserved, not frozen") in 2023. The top importing countries were Canada, Mexico, the UAE and the Philippines.

National Agriculture Week: March 17-23

The 2022 American Community Survey estimates there were 463,298 farmers, ranchers and other agricultural managers (402,198 male and 61,100 female) in the U.S.

Certified Nurses Day: March 19

The 2022 American Community Survey estimates there were 2,607,050 registered nurses employed full-time, year-round in the U.S. (2,247,784 female and 359,266 male).

National Poultry Day: March 19

The County Business Patterns program counted 526 poultry processing establishments in the U.S. with 238,200 employees earning $9.45 billion in annual payroll in 2021.

Frozen Food Month: March 2024

Frozen Food Day: March 6, 2024

The Annual Survey of Manufacturers reported the U.S. frozen food manufacturing industry had 82,991 employees with $4.3 billion in annual payroll in 2021.

Red Cross Month: March

The U.S. Census Bureau produces timely local data critical to Emergency Management about mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery efforts.
