This just in: the Senate has successfully advanced the Fiscal Year 2024 funding measures.
This package includes a significant $50 million allocation for the Department of Justice’s Community-based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative (CVIPI), with an additional over $29 million earmarked for projects that support community-based violence prevention. This progress is a testament to the relentless dedication of frontline workers, survivors, and the Invest in Us coalition.
These commitments go beyond dollars – they signal a dedication to saving lives.
The funding marks a step forward in creating safer communities, especially for Black and brown communities who continue to suffer disproportionately from the devastating impacts of gun violence. Especially amidst a divided Congress this move signals a strong commitment to addressing gun violence and is a clear acknowledgment of the critical need for evidence-based and community-centered strategies to address this public health crisis.
Now that Congress has passed this package, it will go to the President’s desk for signature.
We’ll make sure to keep you posted on the process, additional joint advocacy efforts, [[link removed]] and let you know when these measures are signed into law.
Thank you for standing with us as we strive for a future defined by justice, safety, and community-led solutions.
We hope that you join us on next week's Invest in Us Coalition [[link removed]] call on Thursday, March 14th at 3pm EST to celebrate this crucial step forward.
In solidarity,
