Dear Friend,

If you watched the State of the Union address last night, you heard President Biden express his strong support for border policies he claimed will “save lives and bring order to the border.”

The reality? The border bill is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. It will put asylum out of reach for most refugees, including LGBTQ people fleeing violent persecution. It’s also proven to be ineffective and would incite chaos at the border.

You’d be right to wonder why President Biden supports such an awful bill. Unfortunately, both parties believe they must appear the toughest on immigration to win the election. Even if that means the president has the authority to shut down the border whenever they see fit—a policy President Biden supported in his speech last night.

This election year, we're ready to defend against any attacks on asylum. Join us by signing the pledge to stand against anti-LGBTQ & anti-immigrant rhetoric and policies.

Sign the Pledge!

At Immigration Equality, we believe President Biden can and must do better when it comes to immigration policy. Queer migrants, migrants living with HIV, and LGBTQ families have a right to seek asylum at our border without being turned away. They need a humane, efficient, and equitable asylum process.

Join us in calling on the president to protect refugees—people all around the world who see our country as a beacon of hope, regardless of the hurdles they must clear to get here.

Thank you for your solidarity with LGBTQ asylum seekers,

Bridget Crawford, Director of Law & Policy
