AFGE is intensifying our efforts to win critical legislative priorities that will improve the lives of the federal and D.C. government employees we represent – and make it easier for you to do your jobs.
But we can’t do it alone. As explained in our latest edition of the Government Standard, we need all of you to take an active role in this effort – lobbying your congressional representatives, participating in grassroots activism, building coalitions with likeminded organizations, and educating your fellow employees about why these issues are so critical.

As February came to a close, AFGE eclipsed 300,000 members for the first time since our ranks were decimated by anti-union policies implemented under the Trump administration. During this year’s Legislative and Grassroots Mobilization Conference, AFGE honored and recognized members who have gone above and beyond to build a stronger AFGE. Awards were handed out for the Retiree of the Year, Veteran of the Year, Legislative and Political Coordinator of the Year, and recipients of awards recognizing the legacy of civil rights activist Augusta Y. Thomas.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, government agencies and private-sector employers increased telework and remote work for workers, with many seeing an uptick in employee efficiency and productivity. Agencies have begun reevaluating their remote work policies and announcing returns to physical worksites following pressure from the White House and Congress – but AFGE is fighting to make sure the voice and concerns of employees are heard through the collective bargaining process.
