Friend,
Happy International Women’s Day! Today we celebrate women everywhere, while
we also recognize that the fight for women’s rights is more urgent
than ever.
Across the country, we’re seeing
attacks on reproductive rights, after Joe Biden and the Democrats
broke their promise to codify Roe v. Wade. The Equal Rights Amendment
to ensure basic equality still has not been written into law, even
though it has met the constitutional standard.
Sexual violence and abuse are still
far too prevalent, with justice and accountability still too rare. And
women’s work is still systematically devalued, as women in the
workplace make just 78% as much as men, and too much of their work
goes unrecognized and uncompensated.
For low-income women, as well as
Black, Indigenous, and women of color, these problems are even worse,
and trans women also face widespread discrimination and
injustice.
The United States ranks
76th in the world in women’s representation in our national
government, underscoring the urgent need for electoral reforms like
ranked-choice voting and proportional representation that have been
shown to help level the playing field.
And we can’t forget about
the women of Gaza who are facing a genocidal assault that is
killing tens of thousands and subjecting many more to hellish
conditions of starvation, thirst, disease and deprivation.
Here’s the good news: all these
problems are fixable. We just need to start electing candidates who
will actually make women’s rights a priority - not just pay lip
service.
We have an incredible opportunity to elect Jill Stein as
our first woman president, and when we do, she will fight for you
every day.
In solidarity,
The Jill Stein 2024 team
