Governor DeWine and Lt Governor Husted announces awardees of CTE equipment program in Reading

At Reading Junior Senior High School, Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted announced career tech equipment grant awardees.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted announced [ [link removed] ] the first round of recipients of the Career Technical Education Equipment Grant Program, which will expand career technical education access to an additional 10,345 students across the state. The funding helps schools purchase up-to-date equipment so they can better prepare students to be career-ready upon graduation.

?Investing in our schools is an investment into our students? futures,? said Governor DeWine. ?Allowing more schools to purchase equipment so they can train more students will set them and our state up for success.?

?New technologies are transforming the economy, and to prepare students for those careers, we need to invest in the machinery, technologies, and training that educators need to prepare students for the growing number of careers in the Ohio economy,? said Lt. Governor Husted. ?Through these investments, thousands more students will graduate high school career-ready? ?? prepared for careers without college debt and providing Ohio employers with the talent they need to compete globally.?

Governor DeWine attends ribbon cutting for the new Western Career Exploration and Development Center

Governor DeWine visited Western Local Schools in Pike County for a ribbon-cutting and tour of the Western Career Exploration and Development Center. The new center provides space for students and adults to study, take online classes, work online, or receive tutoring.

Governor DeWine attended the grand opening of the Hillsboro Business Complex. Renovated with support from the JobsOhio Vibrant Community Program, the complex houses several businesses and will serve as a new hub for entrepreneurship in uptown Hillsboro.?

First Lady DeWine reads to children at the Buckeye Imagination Museum.

Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine helped celebrate a new local partner in Richland County for Dolly Parton?s Imagination Library of Ohio: Richland County's Community Health Access Project.

First Lady DeWine spoke during a planned press conference at Mansfield?s Buckeye Imagination Museum and read an Imagination Library book with children.

In March, 401,615 kids are enrolled in the program statewide, which means 60% of eligible kids are currently part of the program. Ohio?s Imagination Library mails children one high-quality, age-appropriate book each month until their 5th birthday. All Ohio children ? from birth to age 5 ? are eligible to be enrolled in the program at no cost to their family by signing up here [ [link removed] ].

Governor DeWine signed [ [link removed] ] Executive Order 2024-3D to continue the Governor?s Office of Workforce Transformation and reauthorize the Governor?s Executive Workforce Board. The executive order also adds the responsibilities of advising the Department of Education and Workforce?s Divisions of Primary and Secondary Education and Career-Technical Education regarding career readiness needs.

Lt Governor Husted convenes Governor?s Executive Workforce Board Meeting

Lt. Governor Husted convened the Governor?s Executive Workforce Board where he gave updates on workforce programs, including career tech, and announced [ [link removed] ] the launch of the Ohio Career Navigator, [ [link removed] ]?a new tool on OhioMeansJobs.com designed as a one-stop-shop for Ohioans to find resources that will help them obtain in-demand skills, advance their education, and achieve their career goals. The career navigator brings resources from across multiple state agencies into one place, making the process of finding relevant information faster and easier.

?Ohio offers a variety of resources for those on their career or education journey, and it may be difficult for them to navigate if they don?t know where to start,? said Lt. Governor Husted. ?Through Career Navigator, accessing the information you need is more personalized and centrally located so you can determine the best pathway for you. Now that the tool has launched, we look forward to collecting feedback from users and further improving on the technology so that it can be an even more helpful resource to Ohioans.?

Governor DeWine issued the following statement on the death of former Ohio State Senator Ted Gray:

"Fran and I were very saddened to learn of the death of our friend, former State Senator Ted Gray.

"It was my lucky break to sit right next to Senator Gray when I served in the Ohio Senate.? I learned so much from talking with him.? He knew the history of the State Senate.? And, he knew which policies had been tried before -- what worked and what didn?t work.

"Senator Gray was a fountain of knowledge, information, and just plain common sense.? He rose in the Senate ranks, and over time, he served as Senate Majority Leader, Senate Finance Committee Chairman, and Senate Pro Tempore.? He represented thousands of Ohioans over his four decades in public office and made a lasting impact on our State.

"I am grateful to have served with Senator Gray, to have learned from him, and to have called him my friend.? Fran and I extend our deepest condolences to his family."

Husted tours Buckeye Career Center

Lt. Governor Husted traveled to the Buckeye Career Center in New Philadelphia to participate in a roundtable discussion with students and business partners to highlight how the career center is helping prepare the future workforce for local manufacturers, including Schaeffler [ [link removed] ]. While at the career center, he also toured their four manufacturing labs.

The Buckeye Career Center was awarded over $2.8 million through the?Career Tech Construction Grant [ [link removed] ] to expand their medical programs to serve an additional 80 students per year. They also received $696,430 from the Super RAPIDS [ [link removed] ] program to grow their Advanced Manufacturing program.

Governor DeWine announced [ [link removed] ] that 11 certified crime laboratories will receive an additional $3.4 million in funding as part of the Ohio Crime Lab Efficiency Program.?

Governor DeWine created the Ohio Crime Lab Efficiency Program [ [link removed] ] in 2022 to help Ohio crime laboratories reduce and eliminate backlogs, increase overall lab efficiency, and decrease evidence processing time.?

"Criminal investigations depend on the timely work of dedicated forensic scientists and chemists at Ohio?s crime labs," said Governor DeWine. "The initial $10 million in funding awarded in 2022 was successful in helping crime labs significantly reduce backlogs, and this additional funding will help labs continue to keep their turnaround times down."
