Today, I proudly celebrate International Women’s Day, a time to uplift the political and economic contributions of generations of women.

Growing up, I was deeply inspired by women like Lucille Roybal-Allard, who dedicated her life to public service as a representative for California’s 40th. Her work in Congress paved the path for Latinas, including myself, to advocate for our communities in Congress.

I was also deeply inspired by the women who led the movement for reproductive rights that gave us Roe v. Wade, resulting in decades of abortion protections that saved lives. Their work serves as the blueprint for our current struggle to restore our reproductive freedom.

As extreme Republicans continue on the path to criminalize abortion and strip women of critical life-saving healthcare, I’m committed to protecting reproductive rights nationwide. This International Women’s Day, I reaffirm that commitment.
