Hi John,

The prime minister gave a raise to the Governor General with your money.

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation just discovered that Governor General Mary Simon received a $11,200 pay raise this year, bringing her salary to $362,800.

Ask yourself: is the governor general providing you with more value to justify paying her almost a thousand dollars extra every month?

The governor general symbolizes Ottawa’s extravagance and wasteful spending.

Will you add your name to the PETITION telling the government to rein in the governor general’s pay and perks?

Simon’s huge salary is only the tip of the iceberg.

Simon racked up almost $3 million in travel bills during her first full year on the job.

Simon and her entourage dropped almost $100,000 on airplane food during a week-long trip to the Middle East and spent $71,000 on limo services during a four-day trip to Iceland. Then they sent you the bill.

The governor general’s platinum pay and perks should have been reined in years ago.

Even after they leave office, former governors general can expense taxpayers for $200,000 every year for the rest of their lives and up to six months after their deaths. That’s on top of the $150,000 annual taxpayer-funded pension even if they don’t finish their term.

You’re even paying for the governor general’s clothes. Each governor general gets a $130,000 clothing allowance courtesy of taxpayers like you.

Are you sick of government bureaucrats living high on the hog then sending you the bill?

Pressure from Canadians like you is working.

Because taxpayers are demanding action, a parliamentary committee recommended reforms to the governor general’s travel budget, including a regular review of the cost-effectiveness of trips, a reduction in the size of delegations and less spending on snacks and drinks.

But there’s still more work to do.

You can help push the government to rein in the governor general’s perks by signing the PETITION. Just click HERE ([link removed] > 1|*true&status2=

Thanks for fighting for taxpayers – it’s making a difference!

All the best,
Franco Terrazzano
