Hi John —

Here’s what Joe Biden had to say in last night’s State of the Union when it came to gun violence:

“I’m proud we beat the NRA when I signed the most significant gun safety law in nearly 30 years! Now we must beat the NRA again! I’m demanding a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines! Pass universal background checks!”

We don’t want to mince words: we’re thrilled to have a President taking the fight to the NRA, and taking meaningful steps to save lives.

But we demand more. Guns are the leading cause of death for young people and children in America. We are an entire generation terrorized by gun violence because right-wing extremists and the gun industry are more interested in profit than our lives.

So yes, we must ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, but we must do so much more. And we can.

Together with the Sunrise Movement, Gen-Z for Change, United We Dream Action, and several other youth-focused groups, we’ve shaped a vision for our collective future. Learn more and Pledge your support for the Youth Agenda here >>

In our open letter to President Biden, we said:

“Young people are key to winning elections. Voters under the age of 29 have made the difference in every election since 2018, breaking for Democrats at higher rates than any other generation. Without the engagement of young people in 2022, there would have been a Red Wave.”
