Ruth’s List is thrilled to announce our latest endorsement – Monique Worrell, who is proudly again running for the State Attorney’s office in the 9th Judicial Circuit she was duly elected to lead in 2020. Last August, Ron DeSantis unilaterally removed State Attorney Worrell from office in an effort to boost his then-presidential campaign. Ruth’s List is incredibly proud to support Monique’s courageous effort to reclaim this important office that she should still be leading today.

Monique Worrell is a trailblazer and relentless advocate for criminal justice reform in Florida with a profound passion for equity and justice for all. When she first started her career as a public defender in Orange County, she witnessed firsthand the injustices plaguing our criminal legal system which drove her to build a career around righting those wrongs. One of her proudest accomplishments was her founding of the 9th Judicial Circuit’s State Attorney’s Office Conviction Integrity Unit, where she led investigations into claims of wrongful conviction, exposing the flaws and biases entrenched within our legal framework.
Before she was elected, she also taught as a clinical law professor at her alma mater, the University of Florida, which allowed her to guide and empower young future attorneys through innovative programs like “Your Future, Your Choice.” Monique was a founding director of the University’s Criminal Justice Center and developed a rigorous program that has produced numerous criminal law practitioners across the state of Florida. She also previously served as Chief Legal Officer for a non-profit organization focused on criminal justice reform.

Monique has a strong and unwavering belief that change in our systems must come from within, which is why despite being a continued target of the political games of Ron DeSantis and Florida Republicans she has kept fighting for the people of Orange and Osceola counties. At a time when we need bold and unrelenting leadership more than ever, Monique Worrell is the right and rightful woman for this job .
