Friends,

This week in Washington, DC was very busy with Committee hearings, passing my direct primary care legislation, and the Congress hosting the President for his annual State of the Union address.

My Energy & Commerce Committee passed important legislation that would require TikTok be sold to a non-adversarial entity, while the House passed a bill to protect Americans from criminal aliens.

Don't forget to scroll down for important travel and tax tips as you make your Spring Break plans and prepare for the tax filing deadline on April 15.

I hope everyone enjoys this newsletter and remembers to set your clocks forward one hour Sunday morning as we enter Daylight Savings Time.

Sincerely,

Crenshaw Direct Primary Care bill passes House

Image

This week, the House passed my bipartisan Medicaid Primary Care Improvement Act, which incentivizes a form of healthcare that is better for patients and for the American taxpayer. This is a huge win for patients everywhere.

Direct Primary Care is one of the easiest and more direct ways to deliver primary care to patients. It is a payment model that makes sense… you pay a monthly fee, and you get unlimited access to a primary care physician. This keeps vulnerable patients out of the costly emergency room, gives them the care they need, and saves money for our entire healthcare system.

My bill is straight forward and zero cost. It clarifies that current laws don’t prohibit direct primary care arrangements, while offering guidance for States that want to use direct primary care in their Medicaid programs, including my home state of Texas.

Now it's the Senate's turn. The Senate should take up this bill and pass it, so our most vulnerable Americans get the healthcare they deserve.

House Committee votes to force Chinese sale of TikTok

Image

This week the House Energy & Commerce Committee voted unanimously to approve a bill that would delist TikTok from app stores if ByteDance doesn't sell the company. If this bill passes the Senate, and the President signs it into law, ByteDance will have 165 days to sell.

This isn't a ban, but this is a major way we can prevent the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from accessing millions of American's data. With data there is power and the CCP can choose what you see and how you see it on TikTok. They can make you believe things that aren't true and encourage you to do things you shouldn't. This is China's goal, the demise of America, starting with our youth. That's why lawmakers - both Republicans and Democrats - have joined together to stop the CCP from manipulating millions of Americans.

House passes Laken Riley Act to Protect Americans from Criminal Aliens

Sadly, recently a 22-year-old nursing student in Athens, Georgia, Laken Riley, was brutally murdered by an illegal immigrant who should never have been roaming our streets.

This week, the House passed the Laken Riley Act, a bill I was proud to co-sponsor, which will require the Department of Homeland Security to detain criminal aliens who have committed burglary, theft, larceny and shoplifting. This is something they should have been doing already to protect Americans like Laken Riley.

Laken was murdered while out on her morning jog by a criminal alien who had been arrested for endangering a child and shoplifting. He should have never been allowed into our country and he should have been deported long before he killed her.

Our bill will help prevent senseless murders such as Laken's in the future. The Senate should take up this measure quickly, pass it, and send it to the President to sign into law.

Environment Subcommittee Passed legislation to allow American Manufacturing to Thrive

This week the Environment subcommittee advanced legislation that would modernize the standard settings for the national ambient air quality standards under the Clean Air Act. This bill will ensure American manufacturing is not bound by unreasonable, costly regulations that do nothing but hurt our economy and job creation.

I always enjoy speaking to young people interested in public policy. This week I had the opportunity to discuss foreign policy, border security and combatting Mexican drug cartels with the Young America's Foundation at their Peace Through Strength Lecture series.

Social Security Tax Information

Image
Social Security benefits are taxable. If you receive Social Security, be on the lookout for your Benefit Statement, also known as the SSA-1099 or
SSA-1042S, a tax form the IRS mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received in the previous year, so you know how much Social Security income to report to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) on their tax return.

If you misplace your Benefit Statement, you can instantly get a replacement form with a personal my Social Security account. Replacement tax forms for the previous tax year are generally available beginning February 1 of each year.
