John, Saturday marks 100 days since the Senate Judiciary Committee authorized subpoenas against Federalist Society co-chair Leonard Leo and billionaire Harlan Crow to investigate corruption at the US Supreme Court. It also marks 100 days of Senator Dick Durbin, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, failing to issue those subpoenas. Since we sent out our recent action email, nearly 1,000 people have already taken action by calling or emailing Senator Durbin’s office, but we need to keep the pressure up. Tell Senator Durbin: Issue the Subpoenas. The Supreme Court’s decision this past Monday to shield Donald Trump from accountability under Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment is just the latest in a series of rulings that have jeopardized our democracy. Billionaires like Crow and Leo have spent decades shaping a right-wing majority on the Supreme Court, creating a corporatist majority that votes with their corporate backers at every opportunity and will influence policy for future generations. This dynamic invites biased rulings which often defy constitutional mandates. The Senate Judiciary Committee has a responsibility to exert its authority in overseeing the federal judiciary, including addressing this corrupt adhesion to big money interests. Contact Senator Durbin today and demand that the Senate Judiciary Committee issue the subpoenas against Leo and Crow. In solidarity, Free Speech For People |
