Dear John, Oregon’s five-week legislative session wrapped up this week. As always, Oregon Right to Life was busy working to support and defend life. We prepared materials to assist our pro-life legislators, engaged with advocates like you at our Pro-Life Lobby Day, and worked hard to push forward life-affirming legislation. Sadly, our bills to protect abortion survivors and pain-capable unborn babies didn’t get a hearing, even though a majority of voters on both sides of the aisle support these protections. Nonetheless, we made an impact and maintained an active presence for life in our state’s Capitol. John, Oregon Right to Life is the only organization working full-time to promote life-affirming legislation in this state. But influencing statewide policy to protect the most vulnerable isn’t just for lawmakers and lobbyists.
It’s also for grassroots pro-life advocates like you who want to promote life-affirming policies in their own communities. PCPs are volunteers who represent their political party on the local level. They help pro-life candidates run for office, select replacements for vacated state and county offices, and can direct and attend their county’s central committee meetings. As a pro-life PCP, you have the opportunity to influence your party’s policies regarding abortion, physician-assisted suicide, and other extremely important life issues. It’s usually easy to become a PCP – most of the time, you just need your name on the ballot. We hope you’ll consider taking this opportunity to support life-affirming policies in your community! Because everyone deserves an advocate, Sharolyn Smith |
